In Europe, the grape
is cultivated from the prehistory. The botanists believe that the origin
of the cultivated grape in Europe is in the region of the Caspio Sea.
The dispersion of the seeds for the birds, the wind and the water diffused
the plant toward the west, until the Asian costs of the Mediterranean.
The vine is cultivated now from all over the world in warm regions,
especially in western Europe, the Balkans, California, Australia, South
Africa, Chile and Argentina. It was introduced in the east coast of
America by the colonial time, but the intent failed as a consequence
of the parasites and the illnesses attacks. Later resistant varieties
were obtained.
